In today’s technologically advanced world, cloud computing is becoming popular not only among individuals but in the business world as well. Cloud technology is changing the face of the business world, making it more relaxed and more comfortable to not only have data backed up on a secure server but also allow businesses to access their information from almost anywhere at any time. Gone are the days of just being able to access data in-house, even if it is sensitive data. With cloud technology, data can now be obtained on mobile devices, tablets, and also from home. Backing up data to the cloud is indeed changing the way businesses operate today.

When it comes to cloud technology, the question many seem to have is in regards to how they want their data backed up. With cloud computing, businesses now have the option to have their data managed by outside companies versus having unmanaged data handled in-house. There are benefits and disadvantages to both methods.

Businesses who fail to have a strong presence on the internet will fail to survive. A website provides a company with massive sales and advertising opportunities. However, as much small business find, it is not easy to design a website. It’s a skill which is a combination of art, analysis, knowledge, and technical expertise. The site can be built and managed by in-house staff if they have the skills, or there is another way – to outsource it.

There are many different ways that a business can get its web presence up and be running. If one is not looking on spending much money and does not mind a lack of flexibility, cloud hosting can be a viable option. For a good tradeoff between expense and features, virtual private servers are a decent choice. For a business looking at a vast IT infrastructure or just an extensive web presence, dedicated hosting is the most expensive but by far the most flexible of the options.

Managing security in an online business can be a difficult enough proposition. There are often infected computers, spoof sites dedicated to stealing traffic to get user credentials, and denial of service attacks. It’s no surprise that mobile apps that connect to the cloud can also be a severe target for malicious hackers. There are however a lot of things that software developers can do to prevent their mobile apps from becoming compromised. Cloud app security is much more important than we think.

Cloud and information technology performance capabilities continue to expand, and security for this technology must grow alongside. Hackers, phishers, and identity thieves all pose major risks, but one of the largest growing threats in the eyes of IT professionals is the recent information about National Security Agency data collection and monitoring. The industry is scrambling to ensure security in a heightened time of paranoia. That’s why data security in the cloud is so important.
