Google to invest $1B in deals with news partners, says CEO
Google plans to develop a “Showcase†app to highlight reporting packages from their news publishing partners worldwide. For this project they’re investing one billion, CEO Sundar Pichai said in a statement Thursday.
Google News Showcase, Pichai said, will highlight “the editorial curation of award-winning newsrooms to give readers more insight on the stories that matter, and in the process, helps publishers develop deeper relationships with their audiences.â€
Facebook takes its first step toward Zuckerberg’s ‘privacy-focused’ internet
Facebook announced it’s integrating their direct messages apps, Facebook’s Messenger chat, and Instagram’s direct messages, aiming toward its goal of a unified messaging system across those two and WhatsApp as well.
“I believe the future of communication will increasingly shift to private, encrypted services where people can be confident what they say to each other stays secure and their messages and content won’t stick around forever,†Zuckerberg said last March.
Nvidia rumored to prepare for Big Navi battle with rumored RTX 3060 and 3070 ‘Super’ GPUs
The RTX 3060 won’t be the only Ampere GPU to get a faster sibling, as the leaker also suggests that Nvidia is planning variants of the GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 with double the memory.
Although the GeForce RTX 3070 is yet to be made official, its souped-up variant will reportedly ship with double the memory of the standard version (16GB vs 8GB) and will feature a price-tag similar to that of the standard RTX 3080 ($699).
Amazon opens its first online-only Whole Foods
Though it might sound like something from a futuristic movie setting, the reality is that as people and companies keep adjusting to the “new normal†amidst COVID times, no-touch or zero-contact buying and delivery services are growing in popularity as a safer option to your usual trip to a brick-and-mortar store.
Amazon opened the online-only Whole Foods store to fulfill grocery orders in the Brooklyn area, per CNBC. It won’t be open for public use, but will instead serve as a delivery-only fulfillment center for Amazon employees to prepare orders. Early plans for the store began last year, although it was unknown at the time that it’d be an online-only location.
DDoS Attacks Increase by 151% in First Half Of 2020

Neustar’s Security Operations Centre (SOC) saw a 151% increase in the number of DDoS attacks compared to the same period in 2019. These included the largest and longest attacks that Neustar has ever mitigated at 1.17 Terabits-per-second (Tbps) and 5 days and 18 hours respectively.
