Our predictions were correct: Windows Server 2016 will be released at Microsoft Ignite between September 26-30, 2016. We’ve left the original article below for SEO purposes, but most of it is irrelevant now. Here is additional information on Windows Server 2016.

Currently, these Windows Server 2016 release dates are speculation. Most industry experts agree with this timeframe. We’ve done enough research to make an educated attempt at figuring out the release date. But there is no official windows server 2016 release date yet. We will keep this article updated as new information becomes available. So make sure to check back often to be the first to know!

Microsoft’s Windows Server 2016 is confirmed to be coming in 2016, but the actual release date remains a mystery. Some rumors had been circulating claiming an April release date for Windows Server 2016, but this date isn’t likely. Most experts agree that the release is more likely to happen in the Third Quarter of 2016, and here’s why:

Microsoft has released 4 technical previews, which is a large number, and normally that would suggest that Windows Server 2016 is close to completion, but many of the features in technical preview 4 were early previews. Meaning there is still a significant amount of work to be done. Microsoft is also placing a large focus on customer feedback and continue to make several tweaks to features and the system based on the feedback they receive.

Possible Windows Server 2016 Release Dates:

One possibility is that Microsoft will release Windows Server 2016 during Microsoft Ignite. Microsoft moved Ignite from May to September which fits with the expected Q3 release date, and Microsoft does love a good launch party. On the Microsoft Ignite event page there are two bullet points which suggest a focus on products as well:

  • Product roadmaps, vision, and strategies
  • Deep dives and demos

Microsoft also moved the event from Chicago to Atlanta citing the timing/venue availability as the primary reason:

“With the desire to move Microsoft Ignite from Spring to Fall, Atlanta provided the best availability to do so in the calendar year 2016. We did explore this timing with Chicago, however, they did not have space available for this event.”

If the dates were important enough to switch cities over, Microsoft could have more reason for a Fall event than a just making the event schedule easier on attendees.

If Microsoft is launching Windows Server 2016 at Microsoft Ignite the release dates for Windows Server 2016 would be between September 26-30, 2016.
