An IP address that is unique will often come with hosting services that have secure hosting enabled. It is also needed if you want to access a site via its IP address. Your IP address is just an identifier for your machine, server, network, etc. A unique IP address may be compared to having one phone number in one house. Whereas a regular IP address may liken to having one phone number for a block of apartments.
It helps to stop you being banned
It is possible to be banned from some websites for the acts of others. There are quite a few companies that ban some machines because they think they are spammers. It is possible to banned from some websites or services with your current IP address. If you have a unique IP address, then you will not be prohibited. Unless you are the one that did the spamming.
Sharing an IP address increases chances of an outage
If a server has many websites sharing a single IP address, then the service provided by the server is less stable. If you have a unique IP address, then you are not affected by the other websites on that server.
A unique IP address does not affect SEO
It currently does not affect how search engine friendly a website is, but this may change in the future. The fact that people are investing in a unique IP address may indicate to Google that the website is less likely to be a scamming/cheap site.
They are soon to be worth more
The unique IP address you have it going to grow in value until the IPv6 takes hold and the IPv6 is going to take a long time. In other words, it is soon going to cost you a lot more to buy a unique IP address, so if you are looking for the increased stability that comes with unique IP address then now is the time to get one before it becomes too expensive for you to afford.
What about the future?
Since technology is moving so quickly and the Internet is evolving rapidly, one cannot say what will happen in the next year and near future. In whatever case, it is more beneficial to have a unique IP address rather than not have one, even if we cannot yet see the useful side excepting the things already mentioned above.
