There are a few common web hosting packages that you can try. Here are a few that you may have heard. They describe in general terms. For example, with the first one, you may also have free shared hosting or shared hosting with SSL for eCommerce, etc.

Shared hosting

A hosting service provider has a certain amount of server space and bandwidth and sells off a little bit at a time. It is a bit like owning a block of flats and renting out rooms to people. Shared it the most common web hosting package and is the cheapest too. Shared hosting is pretty reliable unless you have a terrible host who oversells the service so that it slows down during peak times. There are also companies who do not take care of their server, and that causes problems, but that can happen with most types of hosting package, so it is up to you to find a good one.

Dedicated server hosting

Is where you get the server that you rent from the hosting company. You get to control mostly everything about the server, including what operating system installed on it. Dedicated hosting is one of the most expensive hosting packages you can buy, but it does put you in quite a bit of control. The only package that may give you more control is Colocation. Beyond Colocation, you are not buying hosting services as you are the host yourself, which would be the most experienced choice.

Managed dedicated server hosting

This is similar to the one above, except that you hand over part of the maintenance and administration to another company (usually the hosting company) so that they may do a lot of the drudgery work.

Colocation

This is where you own the server but you do not want it in your garage so you rent space in a data center. You rent the physical space that your server takes up and you rent the use of their high-speed Internet connection, not to mention the power and air conditioning too. There are two versions of this which are managed and unmanaged.

Virtual Private Server

This is like having a dedicated server, except that you are not really renting a full server. You are allowed a little more flexibility as to how much data and bandwidth you actually get with VPS, but the rest of the package is very similar to a dedicated server hosting package.

ServerPronto offers the best affordable and secure hosting service in all dedicated server packages.
